Please consider the seriousness of this.

"Across the eastern Horn of Africa, more than 12 million people—a number greater than the populations of Houston and New York City combined—are now in need of emergency assistance to survive.

As a result of the region's worst drought in 60 years, crops have failed, livestock have died, and prices in local markets are too high for most people to buy what is needed to feed their families. Millions of people are affected in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, and especially in Somalia.

Famine has taken root in five areas of southern Somalia and will likely spread to encompass all of southern Somalia before the October rains begin. As the situation has grown more dire, over 600,000 Somalis have fled to neighboring countries, some walking hundreds of miles to refugee camps in search of food and water. Nearly half of the children arriving at the camps are acutely malnourished; all are in need of emergency assistance and support for the extremely difficult weeks and months ahead. "

I know a little girl named Hayat who lives in Ethiopia. She and her family live in an AIDS affected area and have been severely hit by this drought. She is precious and special to me, and I cannot imagine how scared and helpless her family must feel. From there it isn't hard to imagine the plight of a mother from the same community for her children and elders. Now multiply that by millions.
It's hard to get lost and desensitized by numbers, foriegn words, and statistics. Don't fall into that.

PLEASE pray for Hayat, and the millions of people fighting for their lives, and equally as important- Give what you can!

I give through World Vision- they're amazing

By Perry Noble

“Stop saying ‘I can’t’ and focus on the fact that HE can!”

Questions...

■What if Noah had said, “I can’t build a boat?”

■What if Abraham had said, “I can’t relocate at this stage in my life?”

■What if David had said, “I can’t fight that giant…he’s too big!”

■What if Nehemiah had said, “I can’t build a wall around an entire city!”

■What if Peter had said, “I denied Christ, I can’t preach to all of these people on the Day of Pentecost.”

■What if Paul had said, “I can’t write down what I feel the Spirit leading me to write; after all, who would actually read the words of a former murderer?”

The Bible is FULL of people who refused to focus on their inability…and chose to believe in God’s ability working through them.
■Philippians 4:13 says “I can in Christ,” NOT, “I can’t!”

■II Timothy 1:7 says that the spirit of fear doesn’t come from God…but rather power, love and self discipline.

■II Corinthians 9:8 says God is ABLE!

HE CAN…and in Him we can!

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139: 7, 9-10, 23-24)

Music of my childhood

I have so many memories of when I was young set to this music. The most vivid ones are driving through mountains and valleys, the scent of the desert at sunset, and Christmas's at my aunt's house. And I still love it because its so full of passion and life... this kind of music awakens something inside people. I've heard it described as "tiene duende" which means something like it has soul. I've heard this term before when describing flamenco music and was eager to find out more about what it meant. Wikipedia says:

"El duende is the spirit of evocation. It comes from inside as a physical/emotional response to music. It is what gives you chills, makes you smile or cry as a bodily reaction to an artistic performance that is particularly expressive. Folk music in general, especially flamenco, tends to embody an authenticity that comes from a people whose culture is enriched by diaspora and hardship; vox populi, the human condition of joys and sorrows."

There it is. They're playing saturday night at the Greek Theatre in LA and I'll be there, singing along with my family. Kind of a big deal...!

lol at 2.45...
